Prior to the draws at UEFA on Thursday, Arsenal knew they won’t play Manchester United or Schalke 04. They braced themselves for any challenge with the group leaders in the group stages of the Champions League. The gunners were to draw any of PSG, Bayern Munich, Malaga, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and their recent nemesis: Barcelona.

The return of the Arsenal?
The return of the Arsenal?

Wenger happily avoided Barcelona but will face the Bavarian army of Munich. The last time we played a German opposition, we were miserably second best. Schalke 04 spanked us in our backyard and they clawed from 2 goals down to draw 2-2 in Germany.

The last we played Bayern Munich was in 2005 or so when we were knocked out 3-2 on aggregate. Henry’s strike in Highbury couldn’t cancel out a 3-1 loss in Germany.

Well, February is still far away. On Paper, we are already out, but the stage is a double legged 90 minutes affair. Remember the run to Paris in 2006. Remember the AC Milan demise in 2008. Just believe. I hope we are in an irreversible reaction to success, and the Bavarians in a reverse process to self-destruction as Robben has always done. I hope our attack would have stepped up.

As for the weekend, we have a lunch time kickoff away to Wigan Athletic. We need three points to temporary go third before spurs and Chelsea plays. I believe we can get the required win. Arsenal has won 13 and draw 2 of their 18 meetings with the lactics, scoring 40 and conceding 15.

Last season, Arsenal won 4-0 at their ground but lost without Arteta 1-2 in the ending part of the season. That 2-1 defeat was Arsenal’s first home defeat to Wigan. Arsenal has also won 50% of their 8 encounters at Wigan.

The win at Reading and the quinti-signature of the British boys should keep the winning mood up. Hope Theo signs, since Le prof believes he owes him and Arsenal.

I expect a clean sheet, goals galore and a good game. I predict a 3-1 victory for the gunners.
