You can’t tune in to any soccer station without the Brazil 2014 Worldcup being the toast of the moment. No more club football, except non-European leagues like my beloved Nigeria Premier League. There are games this weekend. Don’t forget to follow the drama.

Arsene Wenger
Three More Years… Get More Trophies

Arsene Wenger is basking with his FA cup trophy after so many years in the wilderness. His new 3years contract sums up a memorable season for the gunners. Fabianski has joined Swansea after playing deputy for years to Alumina and compatriot Szczesny. Ronaldo is still jubilating his penalty goal against Atletico Madrid like it was the winning goal. Real madrid must have forgotten about their UCL victory because of the fever in Brazil. Manchester City may still be hovering over Yaya Toure’s cake rather than bask in the glory of their EPL success.

Was this a winning goal celebration?

With less than 14 days to the mundial, the 32 nations are trying to get their teams right before their first game. Only very few have their final 23 man squad, others still have the headache of dropping 7 players from their provisional 30 man list. some are yet to determine their starting 11 and the only way to ascertain is to have friendly games.

Nigeria played out a 2-2 draw with Scotland some days ago but will be heading to the United States to face Greece and the USA in their final preparation for the worldcup. 7 Eagles will be dropped by June 9. who will they be?

Nigeria’s opponent in the group had some actions last night. Iran held Angola to a 1-1 draw while Bosnia and Herzegovina defeated Cote D’Iviore 2-1 with a brace from Dzeko and a late consolation from Didier Drogba.

Other African teams had their share of games. After beating Macedonia 2-0, Cameroun lost 2-1 to Paraguay, while Egypt lost 3-2 to Chile despite going 2 goals up in 16 minutes. South Africa played a 1-1 draw with Australia while Tunisia defeated South Korea by a lone goal.

Goals from Sturridge, Cahill and Jagielka was enough for England to defeat Peru in Wembley. Daniel Sturridge curled home a stunning opener to put England ahead in their final game on home soil before the World Cup. Phil Jagielka and Gary Cahill then scored from two set-pieces after the break to give the result an encouraging appearance.

Striking Lion?

Goals from Chelsea’s Fernando Torres and Andre Iniesta was enough for Spain to defeat Bolivia. The Worldcup champions would need to put up a much better display if they are to retain their trophy. Brazil, Germany, Italy are favourites to usurp the Spaniards.
