Chelsea winning the Champions League tonight marks the end of the 2020/21 European football season for me.

Pep Guardiola over-tinkered his team into Thomas Tuchel’s arms. The German who was runner up with PSG last season will be excited to finally get his hands on the big ear trophy.

Kai Havertz’s 42nd minute goal was enough to give The Blues the win and jubilation while The Sky Blues weep in disappointment. Well, City can take consolation in winning the Premier League and the Capitol One Cup.

It is Chelsea’s second Champions League trophy – a title their North London neighbours are yet to win.

Early in the week, Unai Emery led Villareal to the UEFA Europa League victory over Manchester United. The game ended 1-1 and required 21 penalties to decide the game. De Gea missed his and The Red Devils are still trophyless with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Arsenal. It was a poor performance for the Gunners and Mikel Arteta. No European football for the first time since dinosaurs roamed the earth. As a Gooner, it is disappointing. Next season will be an interesting one.

Next challenge will be who gets sold and who joins the team. Will Arteta be sacked? What is the transfer budget?

Across Europe, Bayern were Bayern – Champions of Germany; Inter are Champions of Italy, Atletico Madrid are Champions of Spain while Lille OSC won their 4th title. What happened to PSG and Pochettino.

So what next? Celebrations.

Next? EURO 2020, Copa America, Friendly matches and surely the Nigeria Professional Football League. Yes, you know I won’t leave out the league closest to me.

The season is not over in Nigeria. With Ahmed Musa back in Kano Pillars, it seems they are poised to win the 2020/21 NPFL season. Will Enyimba FC rise above the Kano based side?

Ok enough. Congratulations to Chelsea again.
