75 days after, the English Premier League returned with a bang over the weekend. After winning the FA Community Shield, Arsenal were 2-1 winners over Nottingham Forest at the Emirates with goals from Hale End boys Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka.

Leading 2-0 at half time with 85%, I had expected more goals in the second half but the visitors countered from an Arsenal corner kick for Awoniyi to make it 2-1. It was a nervy finish but the Gunners held on to 3 points

Martinelli was instrumental to the opener with a delightful assist. Forest’s low block was difficult to break but with the first goal in, you could bet that another would follow. The new signings started the game and made impacts. Sadly Justin Timber hopped off with an injured knee. Not sire how long he would be out.

Former Arsenal #2 goalie Matt Turner made his Premier League debut. He could do little about the 2 goals but made good saves later in the game. Congratulations to my compatriot Awoniyi on his goal. No better way to celebrate a birthday and the arrival of a new born.

On Friday, Erling Haaland and Manchester City continued from where they stopped last season, grabbing a 3-0 victory at newly promoted Burnley. The Norwegian got a brace before Rodri grabbed the 3rd goal.

The biggest game of the weekend was at Stamford Bridge between Chelsea and Liverpool. It ended 1-1 and could have gone either way. Watching the game, you could understand why these two teams needed Caicedo and/or Latvia. We hope to see the end of that transfer saga.

Harry Kane joined Bayern Munich before the weekend and missed the opportunity to win his first silverware of his career. The English captain came of the bench but Bayern lost the German Super Cup to RB Leipzig. He would have to wait till the end of the season to get his hands on any silverware.

I think it is a good move for him because he may never win a trophy at Tottenham Hotspurs. Yes, there is a Premier League record to break but that is not a big deal. He can return to the Premier League and still break those records. Not sure why the English pundits look down at Bayern and the Bundesliga. Excluding Manchester City, no other English team has a better chance of reaching the Champions League final this season.

That is about it for today.
