Olivier Giroud grabbed a brace for himself as Arsenal sailed 4 points clear of rivals Liverpool and Chelsea. Liverpool had managed a 3-3 draw over Merseyside neighbours Everton despite being ahead in the 1st 20 minutes. Chelsea had no sweat as they sent three past Big Sam’s Striker-less Westham.
The gunners were without Flamini due to suspension but were boasted by Walcott on the bench. Oliver Giroud started his 12th game of the League and the Metersacker returned to his post after the flu that exempted him from the loss at Old Trafford and his goal that tasted sour to England.
In a game where two international Pole were manning the goal, one took the headlines for the wrong reasons. Arthur Boruc gifted Olivier Giroud his 6th Premeir League goal of the season after he made mess of a back pass. Boruc, who had made the headlines in recent times for allowing another goalie score from a goal kick could only beat the emirate turf and punch the emirate skies in dismay as Giroud slotted in from close range.
The gunners hit the wood work twice and had the presence of Szczesny to thank as he collected every ball that managed to sip through his back 4. The game wore on into the second half and subsequently towards the end of the match with the emirates supporters jeering Boruc to commit another error. The gunners had a gritty game with near chances and had to snuff out any saint attack.
on the 85th minute, Metersacker’s shirt was tugged as he made to nod a ball in the Southampton’s area and the ref had the only the spot to point. Up came Giroud, smashing in from the spots in the absence of our regular penalty taker, Arteta who had wobbled off. Hope Arteta is fine?
2-0 to the Arsenal and the three points smiled cozily in Wenger’s pocket. Walcott came in to show us what we have missed and lacked: Pace. A goal would have been great but seeing the English man in the Arsenal jersey again after 2 months was enough. Arsenal may not have this sort of gifts again in recent times but the multi-dimensional play of Arsenal would see them through.
Man of the Match: Olivier Giroud. Two goals and a wonderful round display made the Frenchman exceptional. He was a defensive help at Arsenal’s area and you must praise his commitment to win the ball from Boruc.
4 points away from the pack in the Premier League and our attentions should shift to our Tuesday visitors from France: Olympic Marseille.
In case you don’t know, Carlos Vela scored 4 goals last night as Real Socieded came from 3-1 down to defeat Celta Vigo 4-3. all goals from the former Arsenal man.
