Spain needed a 106th minute winner from Feran Torres to defeat Argentina 1-0 in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Spaniards were the better side in the game with 68% possession, 20 shots & 11 on targets. The Argentines on the other hand could only muster 3 shots with none on target.
The Argentines were rough, receiving 5 yellow cards and a red card. Enzo Fernandez received a 2nd yellow card in the 3rd minutes of the 2nd half added time. With one man, down, it was going to be harder.

In extra time, Nico Williams header back into the danger area was sent in by the unmarked Ferran Torres for the winner. Simeone blasted his own opportunity over few minutes later.
Congratulations to Spain, David Raya, Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino – World Champions.

Messi missed the opportunity to equal the record of the most goals in the history of the World Cup which is now held by Kylian Mbappe (22). Mbappe finished with the Golden Boot award.
Young Player Award went to 19-year old Cubarsi of Spain. The centre back was exceptional at the back for Spain as they conceded just one goal in the tournament.
Golden Glove was awarded to Unai Simon of Spain. He didn’t even need to make a save today. He is likely to win the Goalkeeper of the year award ahead of his compatriot David Raya.
Rodri was awarded the Golden Ball. A positive one for the City man who was away most of the previous season. He was a main stay for this Spanish side.

We started with 48 teams from the opening match in Mexico, through the group matches in Canada and after 104 matches, Spain are champions in the US.
