About 10days ago, Enyimba FC of Aba picked up a point from Warri Wolves to win their 7th League title, a record. On Sunday, they were at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos to be crowned champions.
It was the last day of the season. There was a lot to play for in the 10 venues. Sunshine Stars needed all 3 points from Enyimba to be in contention for the last continental slot. They showed a lot of intent to win the game with over 12 shots compared to Enyimba’s 5. The People’s champions came up late in the game after coach Ikhana made a couple of substitution.
The game was to fulfill all righteousness for the Blue Boys from Aba, afterall they are champions and have be congratulated by the Akure counterparts in a guard of honour.
The Enyimba FC fans were full of activity, drama and fun. They were loud, comical and naughty. They even disrupted the trophy presentation in excitement. There was immeasurable pride for the Aba boys as captain Chinedu Udoji lifted the trophy – a reward for their season long hard work.
Warri Wolves defeated already relegated Taraba FC 5-1 with Gbolahan Salami emerging as the highest goal scorer with 17 goals. Warri Wolves and Nasarawa United will join Enyimba in the continent. Lobi Stars or Akwa United will join them after the Federation Cup final on Sunday.
At the bottom, it was tears for Sharks FC of Port Harcourt as they joined Taraba FC, Kwara United and Bayelsa United in relegation. Sharks lost 1-0 to Abia Warriors but were undone by Dolphins 2-2 draw against Shooting Stars in Ibadan.
That is it for this season. Hopefully Nigeria’s representative make a mark on the African continent next year.
Watch out for Enyimba vs Arsenal FIFA World Club Final in December 2016.
Enjoy your day.
Enjoy.
