Greetings from this side of the globe.

Football is such a great game. Unfortunately we are restricted to just 90 minutes of action to watch the teams we love and support. To some, 90 minutes is small, others think it is just enough. Two main results are available after a match – win or lose. The third – draw – can be classified as a win or lose depending on the need by the sides involved.

90 minutes was not enough for Arsenal to turn a new leaf at the weekend. Beaten by Barcelona, the expectation was to use the wounded Devils as a springboard to put pressure to the Foxes of Leicester City. An average Gooner is hurt. How long will he continue to be hurt? A win over Swansea tomorrow may soothe the pains.

It was mixed feelings in Nigeria where one of the continental representatives lost out of the CAF Confederation Cup. Akwa United had 1-0 away win, looked good for the next round and had given Nigerians the biggest hope two weeks ago. Unfortunately and sadly, those promises were shattered when lost at home to Mokanda. The game ended 0-1 that night and 1-1 on aggregate. The promise keepers lost by penalties.

All the hype and belief brought down to eart like an aircraft shot down by a missile. The Federation Cup win really got into their heads coupled with the Super Four victory and Super Cup win over Enyimba. They forgot that these trophies are preseason tourneys and have little or no importance if work is done properly. It is the first time a Nigerian team is knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup in the Preliminary round since 2005. Shame.

The other representative in the Confederation Cup held their host, Generation Foot of Senegal to a 0-0 draw thus progressing to the next round. Enyimba also overturned a 1-0 defeat in Uganda with help of a brace from Mfon Udoh.

In the Nigeria Professional Football League, Abia Warriors grabbed the only away win over Oriental brothers, Heartland. The Naze millionaires are yet to score a goal this season after 3 games. Ikorodu United of Lagos grabbed their first win in top flight football while MFM FC were trounced 3-0 by Shooting Stars in Ibadan with a hat-trick from Wasiu Jimoh.

  • Rivers United FC 2-0 FC IfeanyiUbah
  • Shooting Stars FC 3-0 MFM FC
  • Ikorodu United FC 1-0 Lobi Stars FC
  • Heartland FC 0-1 Abia Warriors FC
  • Kano Pillars FC 2-1 Wikki Tourists FC
  • Plateau United FC 2-1 Warri Wolves
  • Rangers FC 2-1 Niger Tornadoes FC

There are games today in the Premier League and tomorrow in Nigeria. Hopefully the Gunners cut the gap at the top and Enyimba continue to score goals.

Congratulations to Kelechi Iheanacho for winning the Capital One Cup with Manchester City.

Rushing for a meeting.

Enjoy.
