The second half of the season began on Sunday with 9 matches across the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Table Toppers Lobi Stars needed a 73rd minute own goal from Kehinde Adeyemi to secure a 1-0 win over visiting Sunshine Stars. The win put Lobi Stars 5 points clear at the top of the table while Sunshine Stars sink to 19th on the table – their lowest since Matchday 17 of last season.

Niger Tornadoes’ 9 match unbeaten run came to an end at the Agege Township Stadium in Lagos. Sikiru Olatunbosun brace helped MFM FC to a 3-0 win over the Minna based side. Chijioke Akuneto scored the third goal to put the game beyond the visitors.

Kano Pillars held Heartland to a 1-1 draw in Owerri. The Naze Millionaires, currently at the bottom of the table, went ahead with a goal from Okechukwu Nwadike in the 27th minute. In the second half, Nyima Nwagua equalized for Kano Pillars, securing a point. Kano Pillars are now 5 points behind Lobi Stars in 2nd position.

Katsina United moved to third on the table after Destiny Ashadi’s 30th minute penalty secured a 1-0 win over Plateau United. Rivers United were held to a goalless draw by Abia Warriors in Port Harcourt while Wikki Tourists were held to a 1-1 draw by Rangers. In Lafia, Ikechukwu Nwani scored a brace for Nasarawa United in a 2-0 win over El-kanemi Warriors.

In Nnewi, FC IfeanyiUbah came from behind to defeat newly promoted Go Round FC. Chidi Nwachukwu stunned the home side with a goal in the 3rd minute but Ekene Awazie responded with the equalizer in the 12th minute. Seka Pascal grabbed the winner for home side in the 60th minute.

Yobe Desert ended the Matchday at 14th on the table after losing 2-1 to Kwara United in Ilorin. The Harmony Warriors were ahead in the 25th minute with Segun Alebiosu the goal scorer. Chinedu Ohanachom equalized for Desert Stars 6 minutes later. Sunday Chinedu’s 66th minute header turned out to be the winner as Kwara United moved upward to 18th spot.

In the CAF Confederation Cup, Enyimba defeated Djoliba AC of Mali 2-0 in Calabar to their first group game. Isiaka Oladuntoye scored in the 48th minute while Stanley Dimgba converted an 81st minute penalty after Freedom Omofowan was brought down in the box.
