Matchday 21 Review: MFM Fc stunned by Abia Warriors in Agege, El-kanemi Warriors and Yobe Desert Stars escape home defeat, Junior Lokosa hits goal 18.
Matchday 21 was full of draws and could have recorded three away wins but the biggest surprise was in Agege were Abia Warriors defeated MFM FC 1-0. Ndifreke Effiong made the most of a defensive slip to score in the 52nd minute for Abia Warriors.
It was the Junior Lokosa show in Kano once again. The inform striker scored a brace and increased his goal tally to 18 after helping Kano Pillars to a 3-1 win over Katsina United. He opened the flood gates in the 8th minute, assisted by Nyima Nwagua. They switched roles for Pillars’ 2nd in the 37th minute – Junior Lokosa cross was headed in by Nwagua. Lokosa made it 18 goals in 20 appearances for Kano Pillars this season in the 48th minute before Destiny Ashadi pulled one back for the visitors in the 57th minute.
Niger Tornadoes were held to a 1-1 draw by Kwara United in Minna. Segun Alebiosu put the visitors ahead in the 25th minute before Eric Frimpong equalized for Tornadoes in the 63rd minute.
In Damaturu, FC IfeanyiUbah became the second away team to score in the August 27th stadium as they held Yobe Desert Stars to a 1-1 draw. Pascal Seka had given the Anambra Warriors the lead in first half added time but Philip Auta’s 87th minute goal meant that Yobe Desert Stars preserved their unbeaten home run in the NPFL. They have now drawn two consecutive home matches.
Micheal Ohanu’s 90th minute penalty saved El-kanemi Warriors from a home defeat to Rivers United. The visitors went ahead with an own goal from Aghahowa Otakho in first half added time after Bernad Ovoke pounced on a spill from Jobe Moduo in goal for El-kanemi Warriors.
Go Round were 1-0 winners over Wikki Tourists with Shedrack Oghali’s header the decider in the 54th minute. Rangers and Akwa United played out a goalless draw in Enugu while Sunshine Stars saw of Heartland 2-1 in a relegation fight in Akure.
Defending champions, Plateau United emerged 2-1 winners over Nasarawa United. Reuben Bala scored the winner in the 71st minute after Najeem Olukokun cancelled Yaro Bature’s 11th minute penalty in the 50th minute.
Kano Pillars’ win put them within 2 points of table toppers Lobi Stars who didn’t play over the weekend due to Enyimba’s CAF Confederation cup fixture.
Junior Lokosa’s form has earned him a call to the Super Eagles. He has been listed in the 30 man provisional squad to the world cup. Will he make the final cut?
