Arsenal triple-walked into the second round of the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League for the 16th straight time with a 3-0 away win at Olympiakos. Olivier Giroud rewrote the scripts and joined Thierry Henry, Danny Welbeck and Lord Nicklas Bendtner in the group of players with Arsenal hattricks in the Champions League.
The Gunners needed to win by 2-0 or any scoreline equal or better than 3-2. I needed to write today’s post with joy and happiness especially seeing that i have not had the luxury to write about my dear Arsenal in about 2 weeks. It was a final hurdle Arsenal must cross in other not to join Manchester United on the other side of Europe.
Without Cazorla, Coquelin and Sanchez, Arsenal got the job done. Ramsey took on the Cazorla role and sure enjoyed himself after Arsenal took the lead. The Billionaire Flamstar deputized for Coquelin and nearly got his name on the scoresheet but was denied by the Crossbar.
Mesut Ozil continued his brillance despite having some injury scare. Joel Campbell had the best game of his life with his assist for Giroud’s 2nd goal described by Gerrard as the best of the tournament this season. He has grown in confidence despite being at the receiving end of the fans. Weldone Campbell.
Weldone Giroud. No Frenchman has scored more goals than Giroud this year. He has now scored 13 goals this season, 3 short of his total last season for Arsenal. What a way to score your first Arsenal hattrick – a forceful header, one touch goal and a nice penalty.
On Monday, we know our opponents in the second round – Barcelona, Real Madrid, Zenith St. Petersburg, Wolfsburg or Atletico Madrid. Tough but not impossible. There will be no philosophy in the draws.
On the green side of life, Nigeria’s U23 team have qualified for the 2016 Olympics. The Dream Team VI defeated hosts Senegal by a lone goal, their first 2nd half goal of the U23 tournament. Nigeria will play Algeria in the final of the U23 AFCON. They played out a goalless draw in the group stage. South Africa and Senegal will fight for the last African slot to Rio.
Congratulations Dream Team of Nigeria
Congratulations Arsenal
Enjoy.
