This Friday came faster than expected. It seems like it was yesterday that we had the Democracy day in Nigeria but time has no pause button.

Jack Wilshere

Football itself lives on, irrespective of individual time schedules, national holidays and independent leagues, oil price, etc. There have been numerous friendlies across the universe. Teams are gearing up for international tournaments and unless you just returned from the moon, you should know that the Euros and Copa America are around the corner.

England needed Jack Wilshere on the pitch before they could pip Portugal at Wembley thanks to a late Smalling goal. Three wins in three, can the Three Lions win the Euros in France?  Rosicky scored for Cech, Alaba scored a great own goal for Austria and have you seen Aaron Ramsey’s new hair?

Ospina is needed in Turkey and Gazidis spoke to the Telegraph yesterday expressing support for Arsene Wenger and making it clear that the manager is not leaving very soon.

Nigeria’s wins over Mali and Luxembourg moved to them 6 places up to the 61st position in the FIFA monthly ranking. The Super Eagles are currently 12th in Africa. The U-23 team lost to Korea in a tournament in Korea. It is preparation for the Rio Olympics and the forwards have a lot of work to do.

The mid-season break is over and the Nigeria Professional Football League resumes this weekend with the Oriental Derby in Owerri. Wikki Tourists are currently on top of the table but travel down to Lagos to face 19th placed Ikorodu United.

The news around the NPFL is that Ismaila Gata has joined petro-Naira FC IfeanyiUbah from Niger Tornadoes. FC IfeanyiUbah have three Brazilians but the team have struggled in front of goal. Will Gata bridge the scoring gap? With Gata’s exit, the Niger based Tornadoes will most likely play in the lower league next season. Who will grab the goals for them? Will there be an official unveiling in Nnewi?

Looking at the mid-season table, Enyimba, Kano Pillars and Wikki Tourists should finish in the top 3. Ikorodu United, Shooting Stars and Niger Tornadoes should join Giwa FC out of the season.

Time to look at some mails, reply a couple, and set up my Euro Fantasy team.
