When the term “Unbeaten” is discussed across the world, Arsenal is always brought into the discussion. The number “49” is now synonymous with Arsenal and represents the Gunners’ unbeaten run in the Premier League. The Premier League is the most followed soap opera in the universe – even aliens tune from space to watch.

Yesterday, Enyimba’s 9 match unbeaten run in the Nigeria Professional League was halted in Bauchi after a 3-1 defeat to hosts Wikki Tourists. It was a game that would determine who goes to the top of the table. The Elephants from Aba needed just a point to go to the summit but the hosts needed a victory to return to the top for the first time since January 2015.

At 80 minutes the game was at 1-1 at everything looked done with reports that Enyimba’s defence were taking no prisoners. Chima Akas had equalized for Enyimba with a freekick in the first half. Two late goals broke Enyimba’s resolute defence and they will moved down to 3rd but have an opportunity to go 2 points clear at the top if they beat Abia Warriors in their outstanding game.

In the other rescheduled game played yesterday, Rangers were beaten in Maiduguri by El-kanemi Warriors as they continue their slide from the top of the table. Few days ago they were tops, now they are 5th. Is it all over for the Flying Antelopes?

So, can we have an Arsenal-esque unbeaten season in the Nigeria Professional League? Will Enyimba go for another unbeaten run? They will be distracted by the CAF Champions League but they are Enyimba.

The Copa America Centenario begins this weekend and I am rooting for Chile because of Alexis Sanchez but Brazil and Argentina are favourites. The competition is a 100th anniversary of CONMEBOL and the Copa America and will be hosted outside South America – USA – for the first time. There will 16 teams unlike the usual 12 teams in the Copa America. The 10 CONMEBOL nations are joined by 6 CONCACAF teams.

Get ready for the weekend.
