Japanese forward – Takuma Asano – is to join Arsenal from J-League side, Sanfrecce Hiroshima. The transfer is subject to medicals and regulatory processes as stated on Arsenal’s official website.
The 21-year old Japanese international scored 11 goals in 56 appearances for Sanfrecce Hiroshima since joining in January 2013. During this time, Takuma won the J1 League in 2013 and 2015, the Japanese Super Cup in 2013, 2014 and 2015, and was voted as the J-League ‘Rookie of the Year’ in 2015.
Chelsea, Milan, BVB, Ajax, Salzburg, Augsburg and VFL Wolfsburg were among the teams that scouted the forward at the Toulon tournament but Arsenal won the race. While the fans continue to ponder at this unique transfer, Wenger had this to say
Takuma is a talented young striker and very much one for the future. He has had an impressive start to his career in Japan and we look forward to him developing over the next couple of years.
Takuma Asano will be with Japan in the Olympics. Will Wenger put him in his plans this season or will he be loaned out? What will be his jersey number – 9?
Is “Asano” the Japanese form of “Arsene” or “Arsenal”?
Weird Transfer.
But this celebration sha… What’s he grabbing?
