Two weeks after lifting their first trophy of the season, Arsenal sent three past Scott Parker’s Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Still basking in the euphoria of the Community Shield win over the Premier League champions, Arteta handed debuts to Willian and Gabriel. They repaid the faith with assists and goals respectively.
Willian who moved from Chelsea had a hand in all three goals scored by Arsenal. His corner kick found his fellow Brazilian debutant Gabriel for the second goal.
Lacazette scored the season’s opener – the first player to do so in two different Premier League season. With rumours about his exit, I hope the goal keeps him at Arsenal. I still don’t trust Nketiah yet, despite his hattrick for the U21 during the international break.
Willian found Aubameyang for the third goal. The captain placed the ball at the top right hand corner beyond the goalie.
It was a good game for the debutants but it was a reassuring one from the regulars. Leno returned to action while Tierny remained consistent as ever.
With options upfront, Pepe and Saka could only make the bench. Ozil was left out of the team entirely. Martinez wasn’t on the bench. He should be on his way to Aston Villa or Brighton.
Gabriel gave a good account of himself bar an early miscommunication with Leno. He had the most passes in the team. What a signing.
Three points, three goals and a clean sheet – how best do you start a new league season.
In other matches, Liverpool came out best in a 7 goal thriller against Leeds. It wa tough. Crystal Palace also won their game.
For now, Arsenal are top of the table.
