Arsenal came from behind to defeat Westham United 3-1 at the Emirates in their first game after the 2022 World Cup. The win put Arsenal 7 points clear at the top.
The Gunners had about 70% possession but fell behind against the run of play after Bowen was fouled in the box by Saliba. Benrahma made no mistake to make it 0-1.
Saka though he had given Arsenal the lead earlier but it was ruled offside and confirmed by the VAR. On the stroke of half time, Michael Oliver awarded a penalty for handball but upon further review with the VAR, the decision was overturned.

In the second half, the Gunners went haywire with Odegaard the chief tormentor. His shot found Saka who slotted behind Fabianski (1-1). Few minutes later, Martinelli made it 2-1, drilling a shot past the goalie from the left.
Arsenal were playing without Gabriel Jesus and his replacement Eddie Nketiah made it 3-1, putting the game beyond the Hammers. Of the three goals scored by Arsenal last night, I am more excited about Eddie’s goal because it would boost his confidence.
Arsene Wenger made a first appearance at the Emirates since he left the club in 2018 and it was beautiful to see the fans sing his name. Theirry Henry and the Kroenkes were also in attendance.
Arsenal may have lacked the inputs of Gabriel Jesus but they overcame a stubborn westham side. Martin Odegaard was on a different plane. Man of the match performance.
