The FA Cup win at Hull came at a familiar price for Arsenal – Injuries. Arsenal have always been hit by injuries and it is a thing of concern that they never come in singles but in doubles and may be triples.
Early in the season, Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin both got injured at the same time. There have been times that we had just Monreal and Metersacker at the back with with no other back up for the central defenders.
Metersacker, Gabriel and Ramsey had to leave the game due to injuries but Wenger will hope that the news will be good before the weekend when Arsenal face Watford in the quarter finals of the FA Cup. Flamini had to slot in at right back with Monreal partnering with Calum Chambers in the heart of the defence. I have pondered in recent time about our defensive backups with respect to the young gunners. Arsenal have Iwobi and The Jeff upfront but there is little at the back. Mattias Karen looks at some defensive prospects for Arsenal on ESPN. Isaac Hayden, Stefan O’Connor, Tafari Moore, Krystian Bielik and Julio Pleguezuelo are mentioned.
Added to Tuesday’s casualties are Petr Cech, Laurent Koscielny, Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Tomas Rosicky.
Hopefully, Arsenal will rise above these injuries and win some trophies this season. Arsenal can still win the treble but it will be a difficult task which starts from Sunday afternoon at the Emirates (vs Watford in the FA Cup), followed by the trip to Barcelona to overturn a 2-0 first leg defeat.
With Walcott and Giroud finding their scoring boots, it is believed that the goals will continue to flow. The crisis meeting with the senior players Cech, Rosicky, Metersacker and Arteta is expected to yield positive result on the pitch.
For now, we can only be hopeful.
On the other hand, Chelsea have been knocked out of the UEFA Champions League – Zlatan the tormentor-in-chief.
