The demands of life took its toil and i skipped blogging in the last two days but Football didn’t skip bringing its excitements to all and sundry.
Today, we take on Watford in a chance to get to the semifinal of the FA Cup. Few days ago we hauled passed Hull City, quenching the hopes of Chuba Akpom from winning the FA Cup. Today we may quench another Nigerian hope in Odion Ighalo who has forgotten how to score.
It is believed that the injury concern at Arsenal has been managed but Wenger had this to say in his last press conference:
From the Hull game we lost Ramsey. Gabriel and Mertesacker came off injured but should be available. Koscielny is not far. Will I risk him or not? There is a little medical risk but I have not made a decision yet. Coquelin is coming back from suspension and Bellerin was not in the squad. He is now available.
Irrespective of the team that is put forward by Arsene Wenger, Arsenal is expected to progress to the semifinal and await the draw on Monday. Nobody wants a reply now.
Chelsea were knocked out of the FA Cup few days after Zlatan kicked them out of the Champions League. It was excruciating for the Blues because their recent defeat came in the hands of a former Chelsea player – Lukaku on the Blue side of Liverpool. Everton defeated the West Londoners 2-0 to progress to the semifinal. Crystal Palace had booked their place on Friday with a 2-0 over Reading. Manchester United will face West Ham for the final slot.
In Nigeria, our attentions are shifted to the CAF Club competitions with the three remaining representatives in action today in Nigeria. In the CAF Champions League, Enyimba will play Vital O’ of Burundi, Warri Wolves will play Al-Merrikh of Sudan. Nasarawa United will host CS Costantine of Algeria. We hope they qualify from this first round.
This weekend was packed with so many activities and it started on Friday night in Uyo where the first Friday Night football of the 2015/16 Nigeria football season was played. The hosts – Akwa United – won the game over Plateau United courtesy of a brace from Friday Ubong.
