Arsenal progressed to the quarter final of the Emirates FA Cup after a 4-0 victory over Hull City on Tuesday night at the KC Stadium.
A brace from Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott was enough for the Gunners to ease past the Tigers in the replay. The first leg had ended goalless but Arsenal will rue the extra fixture following injuries to Per Metersacker, Gabriel and Aaron Ramsey. The victory last night came with a huge price but the Gunners will aim to win a third straight FA cup title.
The Gunners looked disjointed in the 1st 35 minutes with Theo Walcott putting the ball across the line which was rightly offside. Campbell fashioned a chance which went way wide. A clash of heads resulted in Metersacker being patched up but the German had to make way for Monreal. The gunners finished the game with 3 full backs and a midfielder at the back – unless you classify Chambers as a center back. He started on the right.
The arrival of Giroud’s baby a night before may have opened the flood gates in the 41st minute where a Hull defender gifted Giroud a goal which the Frenchman accepted with thanks.
After the break, Theo Walcott assisted Giroud’s second before he got on the scoresheet. Campbell’s diagonal pass was tucked in by Walcott, who also converted Iwobi’s pass to make it 4 – albeit via a deflection.
The injury concern worsened some what in the game. Gabriel pulled his hamstring and Ramsey was brought in. The Welsh man couldn’t see off the game with a thigh injury with The Jeff coming on as a replacement.
Despite the injuries, the Gunners are through to the quarter final to face Watford at the Emirates. Irrespective of the shameful banners around, there is all to fight for.
Let’s regroup at the end of the season, hopefully with a trophy or two.
Enjoy.
