After the group stage of the 2016 Euros, it was evident that one of France or Germany will bot be in the Final. Last night, France capitalized on two German errors to progress to the final of the tournament. Antoine Griezmann grabbed a brace to increase his goal tally to 6 in the Euros.
The first 5 minutes were French but the remaining minutes of the first half had Germany ramming on the French goal. It was a joy to behold until the added time of the half when Bastian’s Elbow gifted France a penalty almost like Boateng gave Italy a live line in the quarterfinal.
The penalty was converted and it laid foundation to our the Germans fared in the second half. They continued to play possession football and had chances but France were ready for any available counter attack. Giroud fluffed some chances to increase the tally but a defensive error from the German back line was the straw that broke Low’s Germany. Grieizmann pounced on the loose ball to the delight of the fans Marseilles.
That was thee first goal Neuer had conceded in open play in the Euro – it took the wind of Germany. Two erroneous moments was too much for a night. Thank you Germany – so much quality. Injuries to Gomez and Khedira may have limited the opportunities.
Koscielny bossed the French backline making Muller look nonexistence. He has a place in the team of the tournament. There will be no better happiness than lifting the trophy alongside Arsenal teammate, Giroud, who is always a handful for the defenders.
France will face Portugal in the Final on Sunday. Portugal proved how important Ramsey is to the Wales national team with a 2-0 victory. I don’t see Ronaldo winning the final. Will he retire like Messi? Most unlikely.
In Nigeria, the weekend is blessed with two Oriental Derbies. Tonight, the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium will have Rangers hosting Abia Warriors in the first of the derby while Heartland will host defending champions Enyimba on Sunday in the other South East Derby.
Enough for today. Enjoy your 2nd TGIF of the week if you are in Nigeria.
Time to check my EURO fantasy score.
