On Saturday, the Super Falcons of Nigeria emerged winners of the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations after they defeated hosts Cameroon 1-0 in the final. Desire Oparanozie notched up her 3rd of the tournament when she scored the decider 5 minutes from regulation time.

The Super Falcons are now Champions for the 10th time (including the home and away format in 1991 and 1995) out of 12 attempts. Florence Omagbemi became the first Nigerian to win the tournament as a captain and as a coach.

Arsenal Ladies’ forward, Asisat Oshoala emerged the tournament’s top scorer with 6 goals. She also made the Best XI alongside Guingamp’s Desire Oparanozie and Rivers Angels’ defender Osinachi Ohale. Bayelsea Queens’ Alaba Jonathan and Washington Spirit’s forward Francisca Ordega made the Best XI substitutes.

The Super Falcons also didn’t conceded any goal from open play in the 2016 AWCON.

Congratulations to the Super Falcons.
