There is a different feeling that associates waking up on Saturday morning knowing that you don’t need to get to the office before your boss. It gives you the freedom to sleep late on Friday and plan your Saturday activities.

There is no greater weekend activity than the greatest sports ever – Football. Weekdays have a kind of restrictions to how football is watched even if it means late night games – think about of those UEFA Champions League nights. Weekend football is sweeter though.

Within the week, 1001 things happened. An idea of football without offsides, divided into 4 quarters and sin bins; Deals for Metersacker and Cazorla were announced, there were midweek matches in the NPFL, AFCON continued and FA Cup places were confirmed. Shane Long dragged Southampton to the next round to face Arsenal in the FA Cup. I know a lot of Gooners would have preferred Norwich City. Southampton is beginning to become a bogey team for Arsenal.

Arsenal’s attention shifts to Burnley who will visit on Sunday. Theo Walcott is not fit yet. Coquelin is back though. Great. Will Heaton keep a clean sheet? Oh FPL, I have him in my team. The Gunners must defeat Burnley to keep within distance of Chelsea. Manchester City will host Tottenham. It is looking as if Pep is tired.

Senegal looks like the team to beat. Two 2-0 wins and Sadio Mane is leading the team to the knock out phase. Hosts Gabon are on the edge, Algeria have bought a ticket back home. The underdogs are fighting tooth and nail. We will see how the group ends.

In Nigeria, Enyimba lost 3-1 to Plataeu United in Jos, there 6th in 8 consecutive NPFL matches. What has become of the former CAF champions. It is early days though.

MFM FC were drowned in Nnewi as FC IfeanyiUbah trounced them 4-0. Even Ifeanyi Onuigbo had a goal. There were wins for Lobi Stars, Sunshine Stars and El-Kanemi Warriors.

Rangers picked up a point in Lafia from Nasarawa United but they would need to get their home ground ready for continental competitions else they would need to choose another stadium.

Hostilities continue in the Nigeria Professional Football League on Sunday for Matchday 3. See fixtures below.

Today, we know who is crowned the champion of the 2016 Nigeria Women Premier League. Nasarawa Amazons will face Rivers Angels by 3pm today.

So Sunday will be a very busy football day for me. Let me get ready.

Cheers
