From the 5th tier of English football, Sutton made it to the 5th round of the FA Cup and were paired against Arsenal. The Gunners, hurt from a Munich Disaster, needed any kind of response in the silverware it seems they can only win.
There were wholesome changes in the Arsenal team. Ospina, Mustafi, Xhaka and Iwobi retained their places from Munich. Others including Holding, Gabriel (playing as RB), Monreal, El neny, The Jeff, Walcott and Lucas Perez.
Welbeck was exempted due to the nature of pitch – a plastic one. It affected the nature of Arsenal’s play and El neny had to come off for Chamberlain at half-time. The Gunners could only manage a 2-0 victory.
Lucas Perez added to his tally this season with a goal in the first half before Theo Walcott grabbed his 100th Arsenal goal to make it 2-0 to the Gunners. In a packed 5000 capacity arena, the Gunners held sway and matched on to the quarter final.
While Iwobi’s shooting and Jeff’s selfish problems lingered, there was enough time for Alexis Sanchez and Niles to have a feel of the plastic. While Xhaka takes up Flamini’s mantle of getting yellow cards, it was a shakey game for Ospina but Holding and Perez were exceptional.
The funny side of last night’s game was the attempted headutt On Chamberlain as he raced towards goal and the reserve goalie who had to have a pie pitch side. Don’t you just enjoy football?
Next is Lincoln in the Quarter finals at the Emirates – One match away from Wembley. The heavyweights have been paired. Conte’s Chelsea will host Mourinho’s Manchester United. What a clash.
Will Arsenal win the FA Cup?
