Finally, Arsene Wenger grabbed his first Premier League win over Jose Mourinho as Arsenal defeated Manchester United 2-0 at the Emirates yesterday.
‘Finally I leave this stadium with Arsenal fans happy, Arsenal fans are happy and I am happy for them. It is the first time I leave here and they are happy. And I am happy because they are an amazing club.’ – Mourinho.
In one of Wenger’s worst season at Arsenal, if not the worst, he got his first victory over Mourinho. Arsenal also ended Manchester United’s x matches unbeaten run, where x is less than 49 and seemingly useless in the bigger scale.
Wenger kept to his new found 3 at the back system but handed Holding a starting place. Xhaka returned to the center and Welbeck was preferred up front.
These two changes had their names on the score sheet with Chamberlain providing both assists. First from a throwing to Xhaka whose shot deflected off Herrera’s back to sail in for the first goal. The goal came in the second half after series of half chances in the first half including a one-on-one miss from Rooney.
Within minutes Arsenal made it 2-0. Chamberlain crossed a powerful beauty which was directed to goal by Welbeck for his third goal against the Red Devils since joining the Gunners.
Kudos to Rob Holding who is exhibiting so much confidence with the Gunners. Yea, he gifted Rooney and chance but I just love how he gets about the business. Great lad. As for Sanchez, he had no shot yesterday. He was Tuanzebed.
Liverpool failed to win over Southampton at Anfield after James Milner had his penalty saved by Foster. The Reds are losing grip of their top 4 spot and will be just one point ahead of Arsenal if the Gunners win their outstanding matches.
The chase for Champions League football will continue on Wednesday for the Gunners. They travel to Saint Marys to face Southampton.
No more ” Wenger has never beaten Mourinho in the Premier League” but haters will say “Wenger has only beaten him once in the Premier League”
Time to fly away.
