Despite playing a goalless draw against visiting Red Star Belgrade, Arsenal progressed to the knockout stage of the Europa League on Thursday night.
Goals were expected from the Gunners but it was a drab night with the net unshaken. The Gunners now have 10 points from 4 group matches, 6 points ahead of BATE Borisov in 3rd.
Wenger featured the second string side with Manchester City in mind. Jack Wilshere missed out of Gareth Southgate’s squad for the international break despite featuring in all the Europa League games.
The Gunners visit the Etihad tomorrow and would hope to rock Pep’s boat. The Citizens are unbeaten this season and are 9 points clear of the Gunners. Arsenal must avoid defeat at the Etihad if they must stake a claim at the title this season.
A defeat would signal the end of any title aspiration for Wenger and his red army. Arsenal were the last team to beat City (at the FA Cup semis last season) and they must fancy their chances.
My best Etihad win has to be the 3-0 win with goals from Alex Song, Samir Nasri and the world’s greatest striker – Nicklas Bendtner who was returning from an injury. Which was your best?
Can the Gunners survive City’s onslaught?
