Didier Deschamps’ French side defeated Croatia 4-2 at the Luzhniki Stadium to emerge 2018 World Cup champions.

Antoine Greizmann’s free kick was deflected in by Mandzukic in the 18th minute. Perisic continued his goal scoring form when he drew Croatia level in the 28th minute.

VAR was needed for the third goal of the game. Perisic had his hand to the ball after Matuidi flicked Greizmann’s corner kick. After consulting lord VAR, the referee awarded a penalty to France. Greizman converted to increase his tally to 4 goals in the 2018 World Cup.

The second half had France scoring twice in 6 minutes with goals from Pogba and Mbappe. Mandzukic redeemed himself after he benefited from a howler from Hugo Lloris to give Croatia a little hope in the 69th minute.

France held on and won their 2nd ever World Cup with Deschamps the third person ever to win as a player and coach.

France emerged from group C with 7 points after a draw with Denmark and wins against Peru and Australia. They defeated Argentina 4-3 in the second round, won Uruguay 2-0 in the quarter final, and pipped Belgium 1-0 in the semi final.
