At the beginning of the season, members of Goonerdaily shared their expectations for Arsenal in the 2020/21 football season.

There was a reoccurring trend in the responses – the quest to return to the UEFA Champions League. This was expressed in the expectation to finish top four and/or win the Europa League.

Anayo, a Ketu based fan, didn’t beat around the bush. He expects Arsenal to “(finish) Top Four and (win) the Europa League.” He is not bothered about the FA Cup or Carabao Cup.

Echo, a Berlin based fan, expects Arsenal to fight for the Premier League title this season. He won’t take fourth place – “…not just top four. Closer to the top, maybe 2nd or 3rd.” The cups are inconsequential to his expectation.

Anie expects Arsenal to win one Cup and finish top four in the league. Anie’s expectation about “any cup” guarantees action in Europe next season.

I also shared my expectations with the group – “Top 3 (must be higher than United, Chelsea & Spurs) & Europa League.” I meant Manchester United. Right now I am thinking I meant Sheffield United. Chuckles. I even emphasised that “If we finish 12th, those three have to finish lower.”

Chuma, an engineer in Port Harcourt, was more detailed. He covered all the competitions. He expects Arsenal to finish top four, reach the FA Cup semi final, win the Europa League and reach the last 16 of the Carabao Cup.

Arsenal have already exceeded Chuma’s Carabao Cup expectation. They are in the last 8 after knocking out Liverpool in the round of 16. Will Arsenal defeat Manchester City to reach the semi final?

The Emoji King based in Calabar was bullish: “Win the league, plus Europa ✍🏽🙏🐣.” Bloody.

From Lekki, Xavier expects the Gunners to lift the FA Cup and the Europa League. Reaching the Carabao Cup semi final and finish 2nd or 3rd in the Premier League. He was combing his beards while Anayo laughed out load.

Rocking Zara to sleep with an Arsenal lullaby, Canada based Victor wishes that the Gunners reach the final in all three cups and finish third. But his expectations are a top four Premier League finish, FA Cup quarter final, Carabao Cup R16 and the semi final of the Europa League.

The Northern Nigeria bird king, Mohammed expects a “Top 4 finish and Europa League win.” He just cursed the road safety corps under his breath. Shege.

From Lagos Bola was more expressive. “I expect us to finish in the top four and win one or two of the cups. If we manage to keep our main guys fit especially Auba, we might challenge for the Premier League even though I don’t expect us to win it.”

Voke, a medical doctor in Warri expects a Premier League win and the Carabao Cup win. He had no comment on the FA Cup and League Cup.

In Benin, business man Edosa expects a top four finish. For the cups he expects “One cup early exit, One cup semis, Quater/semis exit in Europa”

Three months after, Arsenal is struggling in the Premier League – languishing in 15th. They finished top of their group in the Europa League. The Gunners will face Manchester City to reach the Carabao Cup semi final. They play Newcastle in the FA Cup third round.

Will the Gunners be in the Champions League next season?
