Mercy Idoko scored a brace as Nigeria’s U-20 girls defeated Central African Republic 7-0 in the first leg of the first round U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers at the Stade Japoma de Douala
The Falconets opened scoring in the 2nd with Mercy Idoko the scorer. Three minutes later, she converted from the spot to make it 2-0. Esther Onyenezide made it 3-0 in the 34th minute before Joy Jerry made it 4-0 for Nigeria before the break.
After the break, the two-time runners-up at the World Cup put the game beyond the Central Africans who had to play their home game in Cameroon after FIFA deemed their grounds unfit to host international matches.
Deborah Abiodun made it 5-0 in the 78th minute while Taiwo Lawal got on the scoresheet in the 83rd minute. Yena Adoo wrapped up the scoring in the 91st minute to make it 7-0 to the visitors.
The return leg will be played at the Mobalaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos on October 6, 2021.
