Arsenal tears Southampton into 6

Rampaging, scintillating, inspiring, classic performance from the gunners against the saints has cleared some doubts at the emirates

I expected this match to be a walk over but never in the cloud 6 mode. A hungry attack, a potent midfield and a reliable back 4 gave the gunners their second win of the season. If I had missed this game, I wouldn’t forgive myself.

Arsene Wenger opted for Gervinho upfront, dropping Giroud to the bench. Coquelin had his season debut deputizing for injured Diaby. First choice Szczesny replaced Mannone in goal. The remaining team was same as those that sent the reds to the cleaners at Anfield.

A Poldoski delightful free kick, a Gervinho cruiser, with two own goals thanks to Gibbs shots gave arsenal a 4-0 lead in the first half. Szczesny made a mess of a cross to gift Soton a cheap goal and concede arsenal’s first goal of the season. The second half wasn’t as explosive as the first, but the Arsenal added two goals to complete the rout. Soton had pressured but Ramsey’s miss provided an assist for Gervinho to score a double while sub Walcott scored the other.

Ratings

Szczesny: 5. had a bad day at the office by messing with that cross, was decent though in all. His goal kicks were questionable. I doubt his fit yet but needs to raise his concentration level to retain his jersey.

Vermaleen & Metersacker: 7. I wonder if koscielny will dislodge this pairing. Great performance from the CBs.

Jenkinson: 7. I have forgotten we ever had a world class RB in Sagna. Carl has really stepped up his game. Did his primary assignment well.

Gibbs: 7.5. great all-round performance for the Englishman, Great attacking play, providing two goals (the own goals). Santos will keep pondering.

Coquelin: 6. A decent performance from the French who replaced compatriot Diaby in the starting 11. He had an average first half but tired out in the second. I didn’t miss diaby.

Arteta: 7.5. did his usual assignment well, the passing, the tackling etc.

Cazorla: 7.5. santi continued from anfield in exhibiting that scintillating display. I just love his two-footed ability.

Chamberlain: 6.5. a decent game for the English lad against his former side. He was almost unknown in the first half but tried desperately to score in the second.

Podolski: 7.5. this german would erase the memories of the Rob-ing van (rvp). Did u see that free kick? Classic!! He scores when he wants.

Gervinho 8: this is arguably his best match in a red and white. Great first goal, overcoming the offside trap.

Ramsey 7: unlucky to miss a goal (a celebrity escape death), great runs and tackles. He looks improved

Walcott 6.5: he came in, he scores, what else? He adds bite to the attack

Giroud 6: no real chance for the French. When would he score? Maybe on Tuesday.

Au revoir
