Westbromich Albion stopped Arsenal’s quest for a 100% Away winning record with a 1-1 draw at the Hawthorns and that was a good time to call it a break for the internationals to fly to their respective countries and do their fatherland a honor. The North London Reds sent out their emissaries and they showed their class.

World Cup Qualifiers

My main man, Nicklas Bendtner scored a brace for the Danes as they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Italy. The Great Dane returning from an international ban showed what the Danes have missed but got himself a yellow that made him sit at home for Denmark’s 6-0 victory over Malta. I am sure he would have gotten a hattrick if he had played. you must have read my case for the World Best.

While Bendtner was scoring, Olivier Giroud had his own brace as France won Australia 6-0 in a friendly.  He did force an own goal as France beat Finland 3-0 in their final FIFA World Cup qualifier. Mesut Ozil scored in Germany’s two games of the qualifiers. Aaron Ramsey scored a late winner to deny Belgium a home win. Other gunners played for their nations but not many would have the chance to be in the Worldcup.

In Africa, 5 games were played with Nigeria being the only team to win away thanks to Emmanuel Emenike’s second half double over Ethiopia in Addis Ababa. He is my vote for the African Footballer of the year 2013. The fans in Addis Ababa were hostile after the match but an away win was a perfect result for the Stephen Keshi led team who haven’t lost a game in Africa. Nigeria are now unbeaten in the last 27 Worldcup qualifiers, losing last to Angola in 2005.

The crème de la crème of the qualifiers in Africa was in Ghana where the Black Stars ran riot over the Pharaohs of Egypt. No one would have predicted a 6-1 victory for the West Africans in a game that was billed the most difficult. The Sea is so black for the Egyptians that they need a Moses to save them, but Moses is in Nigeria now. The return leg would seem like a formality. can they win 5-0? we wait to see the miracle.

The other African encounters ended thus: Tunisia 0-0 Cameroon, Burkina Faso 3-2 Algeria, Ivory Cost 3-1 Senegal. The return fixtures would finally determine which 5 would represent Africa. Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Cost, Cameroon and Algeria have the advantage. would it be a West African representation?

Most of the ticket to Brazil have been taken. These are the nations that have qualified:

  • Europe: Belgium, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Russia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, England, Spain.
  • Asia: Iran, South Korea, Japan and Australia
  • North/central America: USA, Costa Rica and Honduras
  • South America: Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador.
  • Awaiting Final Matches: Four of France, Ukraine, Greece, Portugal, Iceland, Romania, Sweden, Croatia; One of Jordan or Uruguay; one of Mexico or New Zealand.

I am happy to see Bosnia-Herzegovina and Honduras coming to the worldcup. It is good to see Romania, Costa Rica, Colombia and Belgium back. I am excited that Iceland, Jordan made the play off. I hope Iceland makes it but I would love to see Suarez in the worldcup, so I expect Uruguay to divide Jordan. I am quite sad for Czech Republic because of my best Arsenal Player, Tomas Rosicky.

The Nigeria Premier League.

The week 37 matches of the Nigeria premier league kept me on the edge of my seat as the title race went to the wires. 4 teams were eligible to win prior to this matches but after the round of matches Enyimba fall out of the race. Enyimba needed to avoid defeat to have any hope of winning a double. They had earlier on won the FA cup. unfortunately for the peoples’ elephant, they lost 2-0 to Sunshine stars.

Kano Pillars defeated Dolphins in Lokoja while Elkanemi won 1-0 in Borno. The toast of the week was in Ilorin where Abubakar Bukola Saraki FC (ABS FC) won 6-1 over Nembe City. the scoreline equaled the highest scoring match of the season between Lobi Stars and Bayelsa United which ended 4-3 in favour of Bayelsa.

The results in full: Heartland 2-1 Rangers; ABS 6-1 Nembe City; Sunshine 2-0 Enyimba; Kano Pillars 1-0 Dolphins, Sharks 3-1 Nasarawa, 3SC 2-0 Warri Wolves, Akwa Utd 2-0 Kaduna Utd, Wikki Tourist 2-0 Gombe, Elkanemia 1-0 Lobi stars, Bayelsa 2-1 kwara Utd.

with only a game left, Kano Pillars lead with 63 points, closely followed by Bayelsa United with 61 points and Elkanemi warriors with 60 points. Enyimba is 4th with 59 points. This weekend would signal the end of the GloNPFL. who would win? who would be relegated?

My weekend would be tight. I would follow the NPFL and the EPL hoping the right result come my way. Gooner of Steel has highlighted the heat in Arsenal’s kitchen, let us see how the gunners would respond. Have a nice weekend.
