9 Years Jinx Broken: Arsenal 2014 FA Cup Champions

Aaron Ramsey scored the winner in extra time as Arsenal came from two goals down to defeat Hull City to break their almost 9 years of no silverware.

The gunners had featured in 3 different finals since Patrick Vieira scored the last penalty to give Arsenal the 2015 FA cup, but the gunners lost all 3 with the last being to Birmingham in 2011.

Over 3 years later, it seemed that the jinx would take another year after the gunners were stunned by the Tigers: 2 goals conceded in 8 mimutes with James Chester and Curtis David scoring from set pieces.

Santi Cazorla will reduce the deficit thanks to a well taken freekick in the 17th minute, his 1st goal in about 20 games.

The gunners will continue to press but had to be mindful of the Tigers counter attacking prowls. Arsene Wenger switched to a more direct 4-4-2 after he brought on Yaya Sanogo for Podolski.

The young french would later win a corner that led to the equalizer. Koscielny reacted quickly to turn in the corner after the ball ricocheted on Giroud from Sagna. The equalizer almost proved costly as Koscielny laid on the turf in pains after he clashed with the Hull goalie. Made of steel, Koscielny would overcome the pain and finish the game.

The gunners were determined to finish the game in regulation time but McGregor was having none of that. Gibbs had the best chance to wrap things up before 90 minutes but a rush of blood after collecting a pass from Sanogo had made the English man shoot over the bar.

Arsenal continued in extra time with pace and sleek passes but Steve bruce side held on. In came Tomas Rosicky and Jack Wilshere in the 2nd half of extra time. They both combined well to cause problems for the Tigers with Sanogo getting closer to break his Arsenal duck.

Aaron Ramsey popped up with the winner 11 minutes from penalties. A good backheel from Olivier Giroud was poked in by the Welsh man to the delight of the Arsenal fans and Arsene Wenger.

A man missed for a great while in the league, there is no better way to wrap up a season than scoring the winning goal. It poses questions of “if only he wasn’t injured… it might have been a double”

The ghost of Birmingham still lingered in Wembley as Metersacker slipped to gift Sone Aluko the ball. Out came Fabianski, beaten by the Nigerian striker. Unluckily for the striker the ball missed the target to the relief of the gunners. Aluko still had a bite at goal but Fabianski was on hand to keep the ball.

The Final whistle came and the neighbourhood went berserk. Arsenal are the 2014 FA cup.
