While a certain manager moaned about another’s kingship and kingdom, the King took his Gunners are made light work of Leicester City’s unbeaten run in the Premier League at the King Power stadium.
Goals from Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez x3 and Olivier Giroud were sandwiched between Vardy’s goals for Leicester City. In a week where goal droughts were broken, Alexis grabbed a hattrick to open his season’s account. Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney also broke their ducks same weekend. Alexis Sanchez becomes the 1st player to score a hattrick in the Premier League, Serie A and La Liga.
It was good business for the Gunners especially seeing the two strikers – Walcott and Giroud – notch up their 3rd goals of the season with Giroud scoring in less minutes played. Ozil had a superb assist and will surely be unhappy not to be on the scoresheet. Flamini started but pulled his hamstring in the first half. His replacement, Arteta, also had knock at the end of the game. They both will miss the Tuesday must-win tie against Olympiakos.
The 5-2 victory over Leicester City was garnished with Manchester City’s 4-1 loss at White Hart Lane, Chelsea’s near-defeating 2-2 draw at St. James Park. Manchester United are currently top and City look ordinary without Kompany and Silva.
The Champions League returns tomorrow with must win games for Arsenal and the two Manchester clubs. Nigeria’s Brown Ideye returns to England and will hope to get a goal at least to get Sunday Oliseh’s attention. Francis Coquelin is expected to be back on Tuesday unless Wenger decides to play Ramsey as a DMF. Giroud is suspended, so Walcott will start upfront. Can we have a 7-0 like before?
In Nigeria, Enyimba went 5pts clear with a 2-0 victory over Wikki Tourists. Captain Chinedu Udoji got the two goals – his first of the season. The Peoples Elephant look poised to win a record 7th league title with 7 games left of the season.
