A hat-trick from Olivier Giroud and a final contribution from Mikel Arteta rounded up Arsenal’s 2015/16 Premier League season. It has been a season with so much hope and it ended with grateful tears from Captain Arteta and a guard of honour for Tomas Rosicky. A 4-0 victory over relegated Aston Villa puts an end to the shenanigans of the season.

It was to be the last day we could see Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky in an Arsenal jersey. Mikel Arteta made Wenger’s bench but fans’ favourite Rosicky had to wait till after the match to be on the pitch to receive an award for 10 years of service to the Arsenal.

Coquelin and Cazorla returned to the middle of the pack after so many games. It was the first game for the Spaniard since getting injured in December. Cech, Bellerin, Monreal, Koscienly, Gabriel, Wilshere, Ozil, Alexis and Giroud made up the starting eleven.

Giroud converted Monreal’s cross in the 5th minute to open the flood gates. The Gunners waited till the 78th minute to add a second. Ozil’s 19th league assist was slotted in by the Frenchman.  The goal celebration involved Mikel Arteta and the Legend on the bench – Tomas Rosicky.

Hector Bellerin grabbed his 5th league assist of the season as his through ball was converted by Giroud for his hat-trick after beating the offside trap. There was still a moment for another goal. In injury time Mikel Arteta, with the help of Villa keeper Bunn, marked his last game for Arsenal by playing a decisive part in the final goal.

Tottenham were glorious at Newcastle with a 5-1 defeat to the relegated side. Just when you think this season is the season, Spurs just had to hit the self-destruct button as they hammered by a 10-man side. That ensured Arsenal finished above them for the umpteenth time and the fans celebrated – Happy St. Totteringham Day.

A clean sheet for Cech –  his 16th of the season, a hat-trick from Giroud, an assist from Ozil and a 4-0 win to end the season.

We will take a look at our checklists by tomorrow.

Enjoy.
