The Super Falcons of Nigeria needed a 54th minute freekick from Desire Oparanozie to see off a dominant South African side in the semifinal of the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations. Bayana Bayana dominated the Falcons almost through out the game but conceded a foul 9 minutes after the break when Faith Ikidi was brought down just outside the penalty box.

Oparanozie, who scored her first goal of the tournament in the 4-0 thrashing of Kenya, would be happy to grab another goal in her first start of the tournament. Before the game, Oparanozie had only featured for 39 minutes in the 2016 AWCON. Asisat Oshoala would be disappointed not to have her name on the score-sheet . Her brace two years ago was enough for the Super Falcons to see of South Africa in the semifinal in Namibia.

Nigeria thus set up a mouth-watering final with neighbours and hosts Cameroon on Saturday. Cameroon defeated Ghana 1-0 in the first semifinal. Would Cameroon pull a shocker against Nigeria? Most unlikely. Florence Omagbemi will have none of that.

South Africa will need to settle for the bronze when they face Ghana in the third place match on Friday.
