Sundays like yesterday gives you of the flip side of football victories. As a Nigerian, Senegal defeated the Sand Eagles 8-4 to win the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations. As a Gooner, Arsenal lost 2-1 to Aguero-less Manchester City.

I was unable to watch of these games due to an annual program I attend by this time of the year. I kept my eyes on social media up until the 23rd minute of Arsenal’s game. Walcott had given Arsenal the lead. That was a good start and I was excited. The Gunners somehow managed to lose the game at the Etihad and are now 9 points off the top. 2 consecutive loses without Mustafi. Can’t Arsenal do without Mustafi?

Late into the night I got access to the internet again. Lo and behold, hosts Nigeria lost 8-4 to Senegal in the final of the Beach Soccer AFCON. I was not surprised. Senegal are the best team in the tournament. I had watched all of their matches before final and knew that Nigeria had to do something extra ordinary.

Unfortunately, just like Arsenal, the Sand Eagles could not hold  unto a lead as they capitulated in the final third. Nigeria would need to step up their games if they must progress further in the World Cup in Bahamas 2017. They would represent Africa with Senegal.

Sometimes I am tempted to ask why there are wins in football but then again it is a complete package of Win, Draw or Loss. It was not the best of Sundays from footballing perspective for a Nigerian Gooner.

Next match please. Time to see the doctor.
