News filtered through from Wolverhampton Wanderers that Nigeria’s first choice Super Eagles goalie has been diagnosed of acute leukemia.

My countenance fell with this information. It was like the winds have left my sail. The wind has taken away the blanket and we feel so exposed.

Carl Ikeme is yet to put a wrong foot for the Super Eagles such that nobody bothered as much with Enyeama’s retirement. His absence in recent times have triggered thoughts of luring Enyeama back to the Super Eagles.

But I wouldn’t want that thought of bringing Enyeama to linger for so much. We would have to make do with other goalies, even if they are based in Nigeria.

Nigeria had Daniel Akpeyi in goal in Super Eagles’ last two competitive matches. He didn’t express as much confidence as Carl Ikeme and Vincent Enyeama. Ikechukwu Ezenwa has in a couple of friendly matches.

But the matter of the Super Eagles is nothing compared to Carl Ikeme’s health. Our hearts and prayers go to him with the hope of an early and quick recovery. He has begun chemotherapy.

Oh Carl, get well soonest.
