Arsenal lost their last preseason game on Sunday but emerged winners in the 2017 Emirates Cup.

The Gunners defeated Benfica 5-2 in their first game with goals from Theo Walcott, Lisandro (OG), Olivier Giroud and Alex Iwobi. Theo Walcott could have equalled Yaya Sanogo’s Emirates Cup record of scoring 4 goals against Benfica but the England international fluffed his chances.

Reiss Nelson had a beautiful game and provided a wonderful assist that was converted by Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman’s celebration had this “1000 ships and 2 hands” feeling. Will we see more of him than new signing Lacazette? Saed Kolasinac also got an assist for himself.

Last night, Arsenal lost 1-2 to Sevilla with Lacazette scoring Arsenal’s only goal. First half ended 0-0 but the gunners fell behind in the 49th minute before Lacazette scored his first goal at the Emirates in the 62nd minute. His home debut against Benfica didn’t yield fruits. Stephen Nzonzi’s 69th minute goal gave Sevilla the 2-1 win.

Every goal in the Emirates cup amounts to a point. Arsenal and Sevilla ended the tournament with 8 points but the Gunners emerged winners via number of goals scored. The Gunners scored 6 goals while Sevilla scored 3 goals.

Now the pre-season is nearly over, the community Shield is next in line. Conte’s men will be waiting at Wembley. Their is a trophy to be won. Business begins.

In other news, Sanchez will resume late due to suspected flu; Coquelin and Mustafi will miss the game against Chelsea. Arsenal’s poor treatment of Gibbs and Perez continues. Hopefully their futures are made clearer in the nearest future.

Can we fix our back-line before the Chelsea game?
