Arsene Wenger has confirmed a massive blow for the Gunners as playmaker Mesut Ozil will “certainly” miss the Premier League midweek fixture against newly-promoted side (very stubborn) Huddersfield Town.
The 29-year-old did not feature for Arsenal on Sunday afternoon as we needed a last-gasp penalty from Alexis Sanchez to seal a lucky 1-0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor.
Truth be told, we appeared to miss Ozil’s creativity in the midfield against Sean Dyche’s men but still managed to earn three needed points which lifted us up into the top-four places. Now a point above freaking Spurs!!!
Although Ozil has received a lot of criticism for his poor performances during the early stages of the season, he has still contributed to the team with one goal and three assists in the Premier League so far.
Speaking after the Premier League fixture win against Burnely, Wenger confirmed that Ozil is unlikely to be fit enough to feature against Huddersfield at home.
“I haven’t seven seen him,” he said as quoted in the Metro.
“The doctor came to see me and said he had to travel back home, he was in the hotel with us.
“Certainly he will be short for Wednesday”
There is no denying that Ozil is one of the finest players in Europe when he plays to his full potential for Arsenal and even for Germany. He produced his best performance of the season when he stepped up and controlled Arsenal’s North London derby last weekend and it’s a shame that wasn’t able to build on that performance and demonstrate that he can replicate the goods at a tough place such as Turf Moor.
He will be missed in the midweek encounter but following two consecutive league wins, the Gunners will be confident that they’ll have enough to take three points against Huddersfield on Wednesday evening.
