Arsenal extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to eight matches after defeating Westham United 1-0 at the Emirates.

Alexander Lacazette came from the bench and secured the winner in the 78th minute as Arsenal gain ground in the race for a Champions League slot next season.

The offside flag was up against the goal but on further checks with VAR, the goal stood. Mesut Ozil was initially flagged off but VAR showed he was millimeters onside. Very fine margins.

The Gunners had a putrid first half with no shot on target. Sokratis smashed a header on the crossbar while Ozil and Nketiah failed to test the Fabianski.

In the second half, Ozil missed Arsenal’s best chance – his shots were charged down in the box. Westham had opportunities to open the scoring but Antonio missed from close range.

Bernd Leno was called upon at different times in the second half and he lived up the expectation, keeping Arsenal in the game. Westham were getting better as the game came closer to full time.

Lacazette’s goal was confirmed 2 minutes after he had scored but the Gunners held on till the end.

1-nil to the Arsenal, three points in the kitty. David Moyes away winless run against the Gunners continues. Mikel has defeated his boss. Up next, another boss – Pep.

The Gunners are now ninth on the table, three points from fifth with a game in hand.
