Leicester City visit Arsenal this afternoon in the second round of the 2022/23 Premier League. The Gunners had taken all three points from Crystal Palace in the opening game of the season and would relish the opportunity to win in front the fans at the Emirates
It is the first home game of the season for Arteta’s lads and it is predicted to be a hot one. Weather predicts the temperature as high as 35C and as such there will be water breaks within the halves. The preseason in Orlando may have prepared the Gunners for such hot & humidity encounter.
Injury-wise, Tomiyasu had 45 mins with the junior team. He could be involved today. Fabio Vieira is yet to make his debut but he was captured in training recently. Expect Smith Rowe and Tierny to also make the squad.
I expect Arteta to max out the 5 sub opportunity with the team today, to mitigate the weather conditions and because he would have options on the bench. Excited to see how Smith Rowe breaks back into the team and I wonder how Vieira would operate.
Leicester haven’t had the best of signings this summer. Losing your #1 goalkeeper and the potential of losing Tielemens hovering around the Foxes, a point at the Emirates would be a victory to Rodgers.
Last season, they failed to score against Arsenal and lost 2-0 twice. It is unlikely to see how that would change today.
Prediction: Ramsdale, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko, Partey, Xhaka, Odegaard, Saka, Martinelli, Jesus.
Jesus should score his first goal today in a 3-0 victory. Can Martinelli score in 3 consecutive Premier League matches? Will Ramsdale be called upon again?
Good luck Gunners
