Arsenal defeated Crystal Palace 2-0 at Selhurst Park to begin the 2022/23 Premier League season.

Martinelli scored the first goal of the season after the Palace defenders failed clear from a corner. Saka’s corner was headed back into the danger zone by debutant Zinchenko before Martinelli headed in for the opener.

Few minutes before then the electric Brazilian failed to convert after compatriot Gabriel Jesus showed confidence in the box. The ball fell to Martinelli but his left foot shot went wide.

Arsenal had chances to bury the game in the first half but the final passes and touches weren’t connecting. Palace grew in the game and drew point blank saves from Aaron Ramsey – one before the break and the other after.

Arteta made a timely which added energy to the game. Zinchenko made way for Tierney while Nketiah came on for Jesus. Within minutes, Nketiah found Saka who forced an own goal from Guehi in the 85th to ensure Arsenal left with all three points.

Saliba – Man of the Match on his Arsenal debut

William Saliba was awarded man of match after a solid display and debut for the Gunners. He was calmer than his partner Gabriel who had some shaky moments. White frustrated Zaha on the right with Saka’s support.

Gabriel Jesus put in a good shift and should have gotten a goal. Odegaard missed the opportunity to have converted Jesus’ assist after the Brazilian stole the ball from a Palace defender in the second half.

It was good to see Tierney feature and the substitution was spot because Zinchenko was waning against Ayew. The introduction of the Scot plugged off that port.

Overall it was good game. The Gunners held their forth and maintained a clean sheet. They can bask on top of the table at least until tomorrow when other teams play.

My prediction result – Starting XI (100%), scores (100%)

Arsenal will host Leicester City in their next game.
