The weekend was full of rains and I was happily drenched on Sunday. I cared less, Arsenal had a good win at the Vicarage road. The feel-good-factor has been high since Friday following the deals to bring in Mustafi and Lucas Perez. But three points was needed on the field of play to catch up with the Manchester clubs.

Mesut Ozil

Holding held on to his starting place, partnered by Koscielny who played his 250th game for the Gunners. Arsenal had a midfield of Xhaka, Cazorla and Ozil. The German was making his first start of the season and marked it with a goal. Giroud had to make do with the bench as Sanchez continued upfront.

Santi Cazorla opened scoring from the spot before Sanchez squeezed in Walcott’s cross to make it 2-0. Ozil completed Arsenal’s third goal after a pin point cross from Sanchez. Two assists and a goal and the day looked like it was for the Chilean but Walcott earned himself a Three Lions call. Redemption? Ighalo could only get a yellow card. Has he forgotten how to score?

Liverpool played out a draw at White Hart Line, Manchester United needed a late winner at Hull, Westbrom played goalless with Middlesborough and Manchester City were 3-1 better than Westham but will have to lose Aguero if the FA charges him for his elbow on Reid.

Mfon Udoh got his first league goal of the season in Enyimba’s 2-1 win over Akwa United in Port Harcourt. Mfon is the current highest goal scorer in the CAF Champions League with 9 goals but had to register his first goal in the 2016 NPFL on Saturday. With outstanding games, you cannot write out the reigning champions from retaining the league title. Dare to believe.

Wikki Tourists lost to FC IfeanyiUbah but they remain on top of the table with Rivers United close by after a 2-0 win over Plateau United. Rangers slipped out of the top three with 1-0 defeat at Nasarawa United. There will be a lot of changes at the top of the table before the season ends.

In the relegation zones, Heartland gave themselves a boost out of the waters with a 1-1 draw away to Sunshine Stars but Ikorodu United look set for the lower leagues with a 1-1 home draw against El-Kanemi Warriors. Would we say they have started pre-season?

The rains didn’t take away the happiness of an Arsenal win, an Enyimba victory and how did Hamilton finish 3rd after starting from the rear. What a weekend.

Happy birthday to Vincent Enyeama.
